HS Sports Start 8/8 – Impacts on FAC

Tomorrow marks the beginning of HS sports.  As many of our employees participate in HS sports and a few HS sports utilize portions of the facility, I wanted to highlight a few impacts to the facility and activity schedules through the rest of the month of August.

Little Lakers Activity Center

Little Lakers Activity Center on Monday, August 8th will only be open 8:30-11:30am (no evening times tomorrow).

Family Pool/Family Swim

The schedule for Family Swim this week has been changed to:

  • Monday, August 8 from 5:00-7:30pm
  • Friday, August 12 from 1:00-4:00pm (this replaces the Wednesday night Family Swim this week, which will not be held)

Moving forward for the remainder of August, we will be announcing Family Swim Hours on a week by week basis, based on Lifeguard availability.  On Wednesday’s we will release the hours for the following week.  Watch our Facebook posts, our website, the homescreen of the FAC App, and signs in the FAC for these announcements.

Competition Pool/Lap Swim

The Girl’s Varsity Swimmers will be practicing from 8:00-10:00am Monday – Friday starting tomorrow.  This means the competition pool will be closed daily from 8:00-10:00am.

The Girl’s Varsity Divers will be practicing in the evening starting tomorrow.  This means that the Diving Well will not be available during the evening lap swim times.

Note on Deep Water Group Exercise – Since the Varsity Divers are practicing in the evenings, we are able to hold morning Deep Water classes in the Diving Well.

Women’s Locker Room

The Women’s locker room will have a higher volume of use in it before and after Varsity Swimming and Varsity Diving practices; plan your use of the women’s locker room accordingly.

I hope that this information will be helpful to you in planning your visit to and use of the Spring Lake Fitness and Aquatic Center.  Please watch for another email in a couple of weeks with information about Fall schedules and activities

NO PM Little Lakers Hours – Mon 8/8

Due to staff availability, the evening hours of the Little Laker Activity Center will not be held on Monday August 8.   The Little Laker Activity Center will operate normal hours for the remainder of the week; only Monday is impacted by staff availability.

Modified Summer Hours

We held out as long as possible, but the difficulty in acquiring and maintaining necessary staffing to operate the facility and the pools has required us to adjust operational hours for the remainder of the summer.

These adjustments are as follows:

  •   No Family Swim on Saturday’s
  •   Periodic shortening of Lap Swim hours on Saturdays (watch the website)
  •   FAC Closed Sunday’s

As we are able to hire additional staff, specifically lifeguards, we will be able to gradually move back to traditional operating hours.  Updates on our progress will be included in Membership Newsletters, posted on the FAC Website and on the FAC Facebook Page.

We are hiring all positions but are most in need of certified Lifeguards.  If you know of someone seeking part-time employment, please refer them to our online job postings at: https://www.applitrack.com/springlake/onlineapp/jobpostings/view.asp?category=SL+Community+Fitness+%26+Aquatic+Center

I hope everyone has a great summer,

Is the Family Pool Open?

Is the Family Pool Open?

No, water parks can not be open under the current MDHHS order MCL 333.2221 , so that means no play features or slide can be used. A traditional open swim can not take place as it falls under unstructured group play.

Q: What is the distinction between a water park and a swimming pool under this Order?

A: A water park – which is not permitted to operate under this Order – is a recreational facility with water features including pools, slides, sprinklers, and the like, which primarily serves an entertainment or recreational purpose, and which is open for unstructured play. Swimming pools that are permitted to operate under this Order are those which are used for individual exercise or organized sports, such as those set up with individual lanes for lap swimming and which do not contain large open areas of water for unstructured group play.

What To Expect At The FAC

Under the current Michigan Department of Health and Human Services orders, the FAC is running at 30% capacity.  Please click here to see what our current policies are and what is and isn’t available under the current restrictions.

Please note that the family pool can not be open for open swim as it is licensed as a water park and the current restrictions do not allow water parks to operate.  We are allowed to do group exercise classes, physical therapy and swim lessons in the family pool.

Good Luck SL Girls Swimmers

We wish the Spring Lake girls swimmers the very best this weekend as head off to the state meet.  Good luck to:  Leila Kahler, Sarah Strauss, Eliza Hulverson and Zoe Komar.  We are proud of all of the hard work you have put in this season!

Group Exercise Reservations

All of the FAC group exercise classes are limited in sizes due to the facility capacity and social distancing.  We are requiring all members to pre-register for classes to reserve their spots for classes.  Please read the Group Exercise Reservation policy on how to reserve a spot in one of our classes and other class information.

Pickleball Registration

Pickleball play is back.  It is important that you read the Pickleball Reservations And Rules to know what to expect.  Play time is limited due to facility capacity limits and shared usage with our group exercise programs.  Play time will be for members only and will be limited to ten members max in the multi-purpose gym at a time.

If you have any questions on how to reserve your play time, please contact the FAC at 616-847-5858.
